Soapstone Facts and Myths

Myth: Soapstone is easy to scratch.

Fact: Many varieties of soapstone will scratch. However, because of the extreme density of this material scratches rarely will penetrate the surface – meaning they can easily be made invisible with a small dot of mineral oil.

Myth: Soapstone is difficult to clean.

Fact: Because of its matte finish, soapstone is simple to clean without leaving fingerprints or large greasy stains.

Some more Soapstone Information:

Soapstone is quarried all over the world, with the largest supply coming from many different areas of Brazil. The colors, movement and veining in soapstone vary depending on where the stone is quarried. Our suppliers carry seven different varieties of soapstone.

Soapstone countertops are increasingly popular due to their natural beauty and practicality. Soapstone creates an earthy feel with its sleek appearance and deep colors; and, it is very sensible for today’s homeowners because it is easy to maintain and is not sealed with any chemicals as most granites are. Soapstone has been used for centuries for a number of different projects. It is useful for countertops and also sinks, fireplaces, and floors, just to name a few.
