Use Soapstone For A Kitchen That Really Cooks

February 5th, 2009

Today’s kitchen needs to function as a multi-purpose room.  Not only does it need to look beautiful for entertaining, but it also needs to be fully functional for getting everything from weeknight dinners to food for special holidays prepared.  To this end, Brazilian soapstone from Dorado Soapstone can be used to create a soapstone countertop, sinks and tiles that can be used throughout the kitchen.

Whenever you are throwing a casual dinner party, it happens that people end up in the kitchen.  The kitchen tends to be the warm hearth of the home, and your guests will naturally want to congregate there with you as you work on getting dinner ready.  This means that you will want countertops that are easy to take care of and also make a design statement.  A soapstone countertop can be used around the sink and stove, as well as in food preparation areas or as tops for free-standing islands.

Soapstone is well suited for use in the kitchen because it is both stain resistant and non porous.  Spills of food do happen on a regular basis in any well-used kitchen, and homeowners who utilize a soapstone countertop have no worries about this happening.  A quick wipe with a damp cloth, and the soapstone returns to its previous beauty.  You will also be glad to know for health reasons that soapstone is not conducive to bacterial buildup, a concern with wood and other types of food-preparation surfaces typically found in kitchens.

Because of its natural resiliency, soapstone does not need a sealer to protect the surface.  Many homeowners choose to oil the soapstone countertop to keep the colors brilliant.  With certain of the stone, adding oil darkens the appearance of the color and veining, something to keep in mind when coordinating colors and surfaces in your kitchen.

Many home cooks treasure having a soapstone stove in their kitchen that also includes a pizza oven.  A soapstone stove retains heat well, and makes a wonderful material for creating a stove that cooks evenly and heats rapidly.  Not only can the soapstone stove be used for cooking your favorite pizzas and breads, but the stove is also a wonderful heating unit.  Heat radiates from these stoves for up to twelve hours after fuel has been burnt, meaning you will save on fuel costs while enjoying all of the heat the stove produces.

Dorado Soapstone can answer all of your questions and show you several different kinds of soapstone countertops and stoves, so you will find the perfect match for your beautiful kitchen.
